That’s right, For Real For Real is back!

First, apologies to all our friends who came to the Brillobox a few weeks ago and found us, well, not there. We thought we could beat the snow-storm, but if we’d learned our lesson from Moby Dick (Nature Always Wins), we might have cancelled sooner. If you came to Brillo and thought, “What the hell? I wanted some awesome storytelling tonight!”, then we’ll cut you a break at the door on…

TUESDAY NIGHT! Yes, we’ll have brand-new, never-heard-before stories by volunteers from the audience (plus a couple of our talented ringers). How will the night go? We have no idea! See a for-real open-stage in action — you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you may be moved to call an estranged relative. Anything can happen.

Just How Great Was Our First Open Mic?

It’s official: The first For Real For Real open mic was an overwhelming success! The crowd was warm and attentive, and each storyteller was strong and precise. In fact, we agreed that this was the “purest” night yet — this chain suffered no weak links.

Last night we heard about:

• The perils of punch-card machines
• The joys of stealing ball-pit balls from McDonald’s
• How [not] to rob a bank [with funny voices]
• A Pride Parade traffic jam in New York City
• Stabbing oneself with a buoy knife
• Getting rescued from a car-accident by Colonial re-enactors
• Sleeping. On a bar. At happy hour.
• The Dare Master (and how this led to a bent bicycle and a broken nose)
• The “Naked Ninja” (and for this one, in particular, you just had to be there).

As late as 7:30 p.m., we had NO IDEA what to expect of the evening’s performance. But the results are in: 4R4R Open Mic will be a regular monthly feature. Stay tuned.

Tonight: Open Mic Night at the Brillobox

The wait is over: For Real For Real is the proud owner a new website. It’s a little rough around the edges, but it’ll improve with time.

Tonight, Tue., Feb. 2, we will host our first open mic! 8 p.m., $5, at the Brillobox (4104 Penn Avenue, Lawrenceville). We’re not sure what’s going to happen, but we can’t wait to find out.
